How to Properly Store Your Bag to Make It Last Longer: Tips from EGM
To ensure your bag maintains its impeccable appearance, shape, and leather quality even years later, it’s important to pay attention not only to everyday care but also to proper storage. At EGM, we know how much you invest in choosing the perfect accessory—and we want you to enjoy it for as long as possible. Here are our key recommendations:
— Use the branded packaging—the white gift box your bag arrived in. It’s not just beautiful, it’s functional: it protects against dust, UV rays, and accidental scratches, and helps keep your closet organized.
— Maintain your bag’s shape—always stuff it with the clean paper provided or a soft, neutral-colored alternative. This will prevent sagging, sidewall deformation, and creasing, especially on models with heavy hardware.
— Clean thoroughly before storing—wipe the leather with a slightly damp cloth without alcohol or harsh detergents. Gently dry metal parts (locks, rings, feet) with a dry cloth to prevent oxidation and darkening.
— Avoid stacking bags too close together—leave a small amount of space between them (unless you’re storing them in a box). Storing them too tightly can cause the hardware from one bag to dent the other, crease the soft surfaces, and even damage the finish.
— Avoid contact between contrasting colors, especially in humid conditions or temperature fluctuations. Dark bags can bleed pigment into lighter bags, so store them separately.
— Choose the right location—dry, ventilated, away from direct sunlight and radiators. Humidity and heat are the enemy of genuine leather: they can cause fading, cracking, or mold.
Additional tip: if you’re storing your bag for a long time, take it out once a month, inspect it, and air it out.
By following these simple yet effective rules, you’ll extend the life of your bag and keep it looking like new—even years from now. After all, true luxury lies in the details and care.
